Tracks submitted weeks ago are being mysteriouly repeated over and over....

~ May 24, 2006 at 9:34 by Malela (Views: 269)

OK, I played the equivalent of one Depeche Mode album and one Dears album about four weeks ago.
The strange thing is, some of the tracks I played back then are being submitted repeatedly for some strange reason, and I keep seeing them in my 'recently played'!!
I don't even have the albums on my computer - I played them straight off CD.

This is distorting my profile considerably, as both bands (or at least some of their songs) are at the top of my profile now as 'top'/'most played' - which isn't the case at all!!
Very annoying, as it means that the recommended users function is of little use. They're bands I hardly play at all and yet it looks like I keep playing the same songs over and over......

Anyone else noticing this? Apologies if this has been discussed already, but I just joined this Forum and have to leave for work now!

Any feedback would be appreciated. Thanks :-)

Hi,

Thanks for posting about your problem. Our developers have reviewed this item, and think that they know what's going on. It has to do with behavior that occurs when playing music from CDs through MyStrands with Windows Media Player. We're working on a patch release that should fix the problem.

In the meantime, in order to insure that you get correct play counts, we recommend that you rip your CDs to your computer and play them directly from the computer.

We'll keep you posted about when the update is available. Thanks again for posting--this really helps make the product better.

I'm not always able to rip CDs to computer (when it's not my own machine, or due to limited disk space) and I don't really feel like doing so if I only listen to a CD once!

Besides, I listen to a LOT of music direct from CDs and it's only the two previously mentioned CDs that have played up this way. (Plus I've never had this problem with last.fm.....)

Thanks anyway for looking into this problem :-)

Thanks :-) Will there be anyway of removing the 'excessive' track plays? I feel it's really distorted my stats/profile since I joined in April. I'm probably not getting matched to the most appropriate listeners as a result.

I am seeing this same behavior recently, and I am using iTunes and local tracks (not WMP and cd's). In the past couple days half my reported plays are not correct. They are songs I have in my collection, but I am not playing them at the moment! Some current plays make it in and some are missed as the wrong song/artist gets submitted. Did something happen recently to make this issue? I am worried about the integrity of my historical data. Should I stop submitting until it's fixed? Is this a known issue?

Hi

Thanks for the update--this is a new issue, and we're checking it out.

You can keep submitting--and please let us know if it keeps happening. It would be helpful if you also sent comments to support@musicstrands.com

One thing that makes this lower risk in terms of your music profile is that the next web site release will allow you to delete plays from your music history.

We'll keep you posted as we find out more, and we may request some files or info.

Thanks again

I, too, have the problem of mis-matched or non-matched songs with iTunes and local tracks, especially songs purchased through the iTunes music store. Part of this is iTunes has it's own naming convention which the MyStrands has problems matching. An example song is listed in iTunes as "Utne Wire Man" whereas MyStrands has "Utne Live Wire". For others, however, it is incorrectly placing the artist/album for songs by various artists which came from the same album. Perhaps this is a problem from iTunes using the CDDB and MyStrands using a different track listing DB?

Perhaps we could if finding a bad track which is listed elsewhere have a method to point to the correct track/album if MyStrands has it?

I have to add to this thread that this has been happening to my charts as well. Some songs just mysteriously submit themselves a second time when I'm actually not playing any music. Glad to hear the next site update will allow us to correct/removed bad/unplayed submissions!

It's still happening to me as well. It is probably when I play a CD on my computer.

I'm also finding that some songs are being submitted as different artists (possibly because MyStrands doesn't have my artist in its database but has another completely unrelated artist that has released a track with the same title...)

I really hope we can delete the artists that have been submitted time and time again as it just doesn't reflect our listening otherwise and we are probably being matched up with other users that we have little in common with.

Thanks :-)

Malela, you can delete artists/tracks by going to the individual Daily Stats.

Only bad thing is when a song submits itself AGAIN on the same day, you cannot correct the playcount, you can only delete the whole song (with all the playcount).

But about the thread issue, it's still happening to me and I'm not playing from CDs.

Some other observations I've noticed:

While creating playlists in my WMP11, sometimes songs would start playing accidentally and I'd press the stop button (like 1 second after) but the MyStrands program still sends the info over.
Yet, sometimes I listen to 95% of a song and if I press stop before it ends, MyStrands doesnt submit.
