Plays not recording properly?

~ March 6, 2007 at 20:56 by evilangela (Views: 386)

I just joined up this morning and installed the software...

It seems that there are some issues with the site recording the tracks I'm playing. If I check the Recently Played list for this forum, I see everything I'm playing showing up there. However, at this point, I've only had a single track actually log to my profile. The rest seem to be ignored - not appearing on my profile, and if I go the link for the track itself, it doesn't say anything about me having played the track.

It doesn't seem like it would mean it's a problem on my end, but being new, I can't be certain...

Update: Not all of them are coming through. It looks like most (but not all) that are making it to the recently played list here are making it to my profile, but quite a few are just not coming through.

Update 2: It looks like they are properly recorded here if I keep the app open, and not just minimized in the taskbar.

Hi evilangela,

Welcome to the mystrands community After reviewing your playhistory, it looks like a lot of your tracks were recorded as skips. This would be why they are not showing up on the website as we only show the plays that we interpret as full played tracks. If this is incorrect please let us know so we can improve the way we record play events. Also work is currently under way to show a users complete play history including skips and unfinished plays on the website.

Thanks,

Chris

That is incorrect... I've had a few that may have been in there, since the latest version of WinAmp seems to be a little goofy for me - the player seeming to lock for like 5 seconds when starting a track. But that's been a small amount of what I've been playing. Most of the time it's been uninterrupted albums.

Like I mentioned, I noticed that once I opened up the app instead of leaving it minimized, the percentage of them being shown on the site has increased dramatically.

BTW, I am running on Vista if it matters...

o.k. thanks for the feedback. I will talk with the client team and see if we can track this issue down.

Thanks,

Nice picture, evilangela, is that your tat?

We are looking into your problem, and we think it is an issue of timing. When you play your tracks in Winamp, do you use crossfade? If so, what is the crossfade time set to?

Thanks,

Dan

Yep, that's me, though I need a new pic of the finished work - there's more color in it now.

And no, I do not have crossfade on.

Here are some other details of what I'm running in case it helps with the repro:

WinAmp 5.33 on Windows Vista
Added WinAmp plugins are the MSN Messenger Status plugin 0.22 (gen_msn.dll), WinNT Lock/Pause (gen_lock.dll), Audioscrobbler plugin v2 (ml_wa2_scrobbler.dll)

If there's any other info you need, or anything I can do to help you find the issue, let me know

Well, there are a lot of plugins there that we have not tried.
We will set up your configuration and see if we can find out what is going on.
One last thing, are you running Vista in Windows XP compatibilty mode?

Ooh, good catch - yes, I am running the MyStrands software for WinAmp in XP2 compatiblity mode - it wouldn't install without it, and I guess when you install with compatibility, it runs the program in it too...

Edit: Deleted

The whole freezing up WinAmp thing was actually due to the virus scanner I have installed on the PC - someone reminded me I needed to tweak some settings to fix things. I recently reinstalled my OS, and thus the problem occuring again...

I gotta add one clear bug with the submission process:

So it seems we need to listen to 100% of a song for it to get recorded... this isn't a really fair way to calculate IMO. The way Last.FM does is much better (50% or 4 minutes, whichever comes first).

Not only that but the bug is that if you start playing a track... press stop in the first few seconds... and then play it, it will record the song twice! That's really weird since if we skip in the middle of a song, even skip at 98%, it won't record the play.
