So, let's test this place out...

I'll admit - I'm a long-time Last.fm user. I signed up there back when Audioscrobbler and Last.fm were separate (but linked) sites. I've been on there for 2 1/2 years, and the site is responsible for almost entirely changing my music tastes - when I signed up, I listened to mainly the alterna-rock I had been in college (Tori Amos, R.E.M., Toad the Wet Sprocket), along with some trip-hop, and I was starting to get into vocal trance at the time. Thanks to Last.fm, I've somehow ended up listening to darkwave, EBM, futurepop, industrial, and gothic stuff - and LOVING it.

After recently hearing about here, I figured it couldn't hurt to try out another social music website. So here I am, looking over the features, starting the music tracking, and seeing what results. Perhaps I'll find different recommendations here that I don't get there, or some features will grab me. It'll be interesting to see what happens...

Sadly, this place hasn't gotten off on the right foot. First, the installer didn't want to work under Vista, and I had to run it in XP2 compatibility mode. The MyStrands software itself, though, doesn't seem to care. Not sure why it complained about Vista... Also, it seemed to take a while before the music I'm playing started being tracked. I actually went far enough to post about it in the forum journal thingy (why not a standard forum???), after which I promptly had the first track get listed on the site, so I deleted my post there. And right afterwards, it seems like it's stopped tracking again. NOT a good sign...

Oh well, since it runs in the background, I can forget about it and hope that over time it works more reliably.
