69 Love Songs book now out

~ December 10, 2006 at 18:52 (Views: 163 )

69 Love Songs by The Magnetic Fields

LD Beghtol has written 69 Love Songs -- A Field Guide, an illustrated history of the album. LD was a member of The Magnetic Fields for the recording of the album, singing on several of the songs. He has also contributed several comments to the 69 Love Songs wiki that I started a few years ago. So you are warmly encouraged to buy his book (Amazon UK, Amazon US).

Track Identification

Introduction To The James Brown Show - (with Frankie Crocker)
…well actually the track I played was Introduction to James Brown from the first (1962) Live at the Apollo album, but MyStrands recognised it as the 1968 introduction to the second Live at the Apollo album

Is MusicStrands importing data from other playlist systems?

~ January 19, 2006 at 2:19 (Views: 117 )

I started creating a Neil Young-related playlist on MusicStrands. This is a playlist I've seeded in a few other places such as Upto11.net.

When I was half way through creating my playlist on MusicStrands, I noticed that the recommendations MusicStrands was making were exactly the tracks that made up the other half of my playlist.

How could MusicStrands know this, since these tracks are not at all predictable from the first half of the playlist - at least not with 100% accuracy? I assume MusicStrands is not literally reading my mind, so is it importing playlists like the Upto11 version of my Neil Young playlist to help it make recommendations?

I'd be interested to know - thanks.

How to get new tracks on the MusicStrands catalogue

~ December 17, 2005 at 18:43 (Views: 107 )

I've just joined up and created my first playlist on MusicStrands. It's a set of tracks that - in my mind - resemble different aspects of the songs of Philip Jeays.

It would be great to includes some of Jeays' own songs in the playlist, but I couldn't find him in the database. I guess that's because he's not that well known, though I couldn't find Jake Thackray either, and he is better known.

Does anyone know if there's a process for submitting artists, albums or tracks to MusicStrands for inclusion in their database? (I wonder why they don't use the MusicBrainz database, which is very carefully put together and does include both Jeays and Thackray.)

Thanks in advance for any answers or suggestions on this - and in case anyone was wondering, I'm not related to, or even personally acquainted with, either Jeays or Thackray (the latter has been dead awhile!); I just like their songs.
